First edition of this fine fête book which updates the Annales eclesiásticos, y seculares of 1677. A very rare account of the festivities surrounding the visits to Seville every four years by the Royal Court, known as the Olimpiad. The work contains the texts of pageants and poetry composed for these occasions, which combined various religious and secular events, including bull-fights, tournaments, and other festivities. The large folding plates are by the Spanish painter and engraver Pedro Tortolero (c. 1700-1766). They show PHILIP V, King of Spain (1683-1746) and his court Entering Seville in 1729 and the transferral of the remains of FERDINAND III (the Saint, Died: 1252), to their new resting-place, with the Procession passing Seville Cathedral of the same year. The frontispiece was engraved by Juan Fernandez (fl 1747) after a drawing by Tortolero. The authorship of the work is unclear, as the licenses are made out to Lorenzo Batista de Zuniga, but others credit the work to the Jesuit author Antonio de Solis, who wrote the appendices. (#kfk401) $7,500.00
