An unusual piece of theatrical ephemera, featuring two great American actors: a printed-silk playbill for a Dallas performance of the 1888 touring production of Julius Caesar, starring Edwin Booth (whose fame is regrettably now linked with that of his brother John Wilkes Booth) and Booth's longtime friend and business partner Lawrence Barrett(#kfk753)                    $1,250.00 more

Millie Christine. A scarce early carte-de-visite photograph of the famous conjoined twins. Philadelphia: H. L. German's Temple of Art, circa 1870. 65 x 105mm. Carte-de-visite photograph.
An image of the twins with a guitar, signed on the verso. Born into slavery in North Carolina in 1851, Millie and Christine were taken from their parents, sold three or four times, stolen and retrieved; and placed on display at fairs and "freak-shows" from New Orleans to as far away as Canada. At one time, having been sold to J. P. Smith, they were kidnapped and taken to England. Smith retrieved them with the aid of their mother and they were brought back to North Carolina in 1857. Smith taught them to read and write, as well as sing and dance. The twins composed and performed their own music as well as that of others. The twins died in 1912. (#kfk735) $2,500.00 more

[African American Musicians] Original Artwork. The Minstrel boy to the sea has gone... 1905. An original pen and ink signed "I.C. U. Del. '05" in the lower right corner.

The verse goes "The Minstrel Boy to the sea has gone; On Margate Sands you'll find him; His old banjo he has girded on, But he's left his voice behind him." The two musicians at the top of the page are wearing tails and fancy shoes and are playing the violin and spoons; below they are shown in plaid shirts, trousers and vest, wearing earrings and playing the banjo and tambourine. The artist has used a fern and a spatter technique to create a shadow of the fern as a background to the verse. Carefully and artfully done. We were not able to ascertain who the artist was. [Typography]. Wölfs, J. A. after Josef Paul Cserny. Denkmal der Zusammenkunft in Töplitz im September. n.p.: n.p., circa 1813.
This obscure curiosity commemorates the Treaty of Töplitz, which was an agreement between Russia, Austria, and Prussia to establish a coalition force against Napoleon I of France, signed on September 19th, 1813. Though the history behind this unusual oddity is fascinating, the visual appeal is it's primary attraction. (#kfk253) $4,500.00
