Engraved throughout, Engraved title, Introductory sonnet, and forty-four full page engraved emblems with facing text in four languages (Latin, English, Italian and French). Contemporary calf, old and very skilled reback. A very good and attractive copy.

[MUSIC] SOUVENIR DES MENESTRELS. Le Souvenir des menestrels, contenant une collection de romances inedites (4e annie). Ed. Charles Laffillg. Paris: Widow Benoist [au Magasin de Musique de Mme Benoist], 1817. This appears to be the issue on papier velin, with engravings avant la lettre, and in publisher's lavish gilt red morocco binding. The 9 plates were designed by popular artists of the period: Chasselas, Garnerey, Patras, Horace Vernet, Desmoulins, and were engraved by Lambert and Godefroy. The musical scores and lyrics are also engraved. Among the musical compositions included in this volume are some by Rodolphe Kreutzer (the violinist to whom Beethoven dedicated the so-called "Kreutzer Sonata"), Hyarinthe Jadin, Giovanni Pacini, Ignaz Pleyel, Francois Naderman, et al.. $850.00 More images and full description |
